Craigslist vs. Ebay

Group 3: Elizabeth, Romeo, Daniel, Cindy & Celestia

THOUGHTS:

Users of Ebay are people who are looking for something very specific but not location specific, whereas Craigslist is all about specific locations. You have to barter with people on Craigslist, but Ebay is very disconnected from personal interaction.

Craigslist has an element of human interaction/connecting people that Ebay does not. Ebay guarantees your purchase whereas Craigslist does not. Craigslist is more about purchases using cash so it would be more comfortable for some people than using Ebay and paying via credit/debit on the web.

Ebay is an auction site, you have to win the product at a price you don’t get to barter lower.

One is like Amazon, one is like the classified ads in a newspaper.

Craigslist has more user control and Ebay is much more controlled by the auctioneer and the website itself.

Ebay charges you a cut but Craigslist does not.

Ebay is strictly selling items, Craigslist is about the community around you. You can find yard sales, jobs, pets & missed connections over Craigslist, so it is a much more multifaceted website.

Grandma would probably like Craigslist more because its more simple and straight forward with less to sift through than Ebay.

You need to have a better understanding of exactly what you’re looking for on Ebay while Craigslist gives you a full list of their categories on the front page.

Ebay is easier for searching for specifics, Craigslist requires you to navigate their site manually.

You need to create an account to use Ebay, in some cases you don’t need an account to contact sellers on Craigslist.

Ebay has a much wider variety of items to buy, but Craigslist is much more immediate.
