Guitar App Questionnaire and Wireframes

Who is your primary audience? Do you have a secondary one?

My primary audience are guitar players who are familiar with playing a guitar and would like to look up chords they can play, but not necessarily know. My secondary audience would be those who are beginners and want to learn chords and look them up. (Utilizing secondary features of the app like reverse chord look-ups and flash-card game).

What are the top three objectives for your app?

The top three objectives for this app is to 1) Look up a chord by simply playing it in front of your phone. 2) save and favorite chords that you find in a library that you can access later. 3) Reverse Chord look up for those that don’t know how to play the chord, but want to find it through a search.

What are all of the features that related apps have? Are there any that you have thought of on your own? List as many as you can.

What is the bare minimum in functionality that your web app should be able to do?

Take a recording of your strum and find the chord that matches it. Display that chord.
What features are unnecessary or don’t lead directly to the objectives you listed above?

The tuner. While it can be neat, it’s not required to get the app working. However that being said, I do like the idea because if you record in DADGAD tuning, the microphone should pick that up and give you the proper chord you made based off the tuning. So if you are in EADGBE and the app is tuned for DADGAD, then errors may arise. If you are in DADGAD and the tuner is in DADGAD, then all is good with the world. Tuner allows multiple tunings to be handled in app so that multiple chords can be made over a wide comprehensive range.

Anything that deals with sharing chords with friends. It’s a cool after thought, but not part of the app. “Hey folks, check out this E-diminished chord”. Random friend: “wtf is diminished?”. Yeah…xD

A song player. It would be cool to apply these chords you save with songs that are out there. A-minor. Ok, ‘Hallelujah’ starts with that chord. Start song with that chord in mind?? — It’s cool, but this feels like another app. It would be cool to cross reference Chord App with Song App and both share your saved chord data. Something down the road I suppose.
What is your “Call to Action” (The first thing a user should do)?

2: Hit record and have the software automatically find it. However your main action is to:

STRUM YOUR INSTRUMENT. That sets off the whole app. Walk-through:

Imagine sitting there with your app. You load the app up, prop phone near guitar sound hole a good distance away. Grab your meaty fingers and thrash down on a good A7th? Chord? wait what is this chord? The microphone picked up the strum and spat at you the answer. It shows it in a chord chart form with finger placement, fret numbers and the name. It will then show you alternatives that you can play. You can then save it and keep it in a library. In the library you can start a flashcard game and learn as you go. So with your meaty fingers you load up your flashcard game and you shred away on some outrageous and bodacious big muff chords. Crowd goes wild. You learned something new in the world of guitar and you bow to your audience knowing you just slayed the beast. Eat tacos.
