P2 / Recipe App

I want to remake an interface for a recipe library for project 2. After looking at the best recipe iphone apps I was surprised at all of the options. However, there wasn’t one app that seemed to have a really excellent user interface. The one that was closest to being ok was this one.

However, it lacks some details I would like to include in my app design. As far as user interface this one wins for less cluster and more usability.  I would like to include a way to categorize food by adding some additional information such as culture/origin of the recipe. I would also include a way to scan bar codes for creating one’s own recipes or substituting ingredients in a recipe.

All of these have a pretty solid library, it’s just the way the user navigates through them that makes them more or less desirable. This app shows a narration of a chef helping the user step-by-step including video tutorials. Not sure if I want the actual chef narration but the video could be helpful for people, and should be included.

Having a really good library that holds all of the recipes clearly will be crucial in the re-make of this app design. Also considering including HD photography or going with icons, or both. Something that shows the user what they are looking for in their library with out the over clutter and extremely small food images.

Including a grocery list component for collecting ingredients would be wise. Letting the user quickly add items to a master list that can be used outside of the recipe section of the app. The idea would be to have the user add to there list in the app by selecting specific ingredients in the recipe.

This recipe app should include, recipe library, editable recipes, create your own recipe, sharing components, ratings, comments, following others, grocery list, bar code food scanning, nutritional value of recipe, serving sizes, video component, difficulty level, cultural/origin of food.
